Extensive enrichment opportunities will be available to Post 16 students to ensure the learning experience is as fulfilling & dynamic as possible.

Extra-curricular opportunities are an important and significant area of learning as they provide students with new and challenging experiences. These opportunities allow students to develop new skills, take risks, experiment with new experiences and consequently grow in self-confidence. The significance of this cannot be underestimated. Therefore, to encourage enjoyment and love of learning, as well as giving KS5 learners opportunities to grow and develop as young adults, all Post 16 learners will be provided with a broad and diverse range of choices.

We aim for our students to:

  • Extend their learning beyond that of the standard curriculum in an environment that caters for and challenges all
  • Develop a range of essential skills that will help them be active, enterprising and well-rounded individuals
  • Enjoy a range of fun activities in a social setting.

Sixth Form Leadership Team

A Head Boy and Head Girl will be chosen to lead a group of elected Post 16 students. These prestigious positions will oversee the direction of Post 16 and will represent the students at key formal events. They will have the responsibility and privilege of being the voice of all Post 16 learners.


The aim of this section is to make a difference to other people’s lives. It is an opportunity to do something useful without getting paid. A range of voluntary opportunities will be given to students and will include: supporting students in the lower school as mentors, working within departments or with students in tutor groups, theatre visits, sport tours, visits abroad, exchange programmes, Youth Speaks or working in the environment. A number of external organisations will be provided for students. All students will undertake 2 hours per week voluntary work timetabled.

Internships/Work Experience

To ensure all students are prepared for the world of work and can gain valuable experience and insight into future possible areas, all Post 16 students will undertake a two-week period of internship/work experience in a wide variety of industries. Some of these will build on our links with our partner international schools, Hellerup Skole in Copenhagen, Denmark, and High Tech High in San Diego, California, USA.

Students who have such internships will support younger students in these schools. Please note that our students will be expected to meet the cost of the return flight in both cases but will be accommodated by host families in order to keep costs down.

Visiting speakers & citizenship

An extensive programme of professional, external speakers will be organised. Topics will be diverse and relevant and will include: ethical and moral issues, politics, personal safety & all areas of health.


The Challenge Network is a national charity; they are the largest provider of the National Citizens Service and are supported by The Department for Education. The Challenge is an exciting summer programme for Year 11 students which inspires young people to make a difference. It is a fantastic opportunity for your child to meet new people, develop their CVs and gather skills for Post 16, university or future employment.


Teams of diverse 16 year olds take on an intensive, primarily residential, three week programme that includes physical, creative and social action challenges. This culminates in the teams designing and running their own projects.

Charity Expeditions – Tanzania/Ecuador

In the summer of 2011, three Post 16 students from Stanley Park High, travelled all the way to the Africa. The group touched down in Tanzania, to embark on a month of charity work, this included, helping to build classrooms in a school, assisting the building of elderly people's homes, seaweed farming and other tasks to help the local community. Both the students and I learnt a lot. We realised how lucky we are, to have running water and a constant supply of food. The group also had some free time, in this we learnt to Scuba dive, gaining the PADI qualification. One of the highlights of the trip was going on two safaris! Seeing animals like Lions, cheetahs and zebras, in their natural environment, was an incredible experience.

After the success of the Tanzania trip, a trip to Ecuador in 2014 is planned. This time 14 students from Post 16 and Year 11 will be travelling to South America. This trip is based on marine conservation.

For both trips, the students have had to raise over £3000 to go. They have done this in various ways, from long distance hikes to bag packing and fund raising activities.

We hope that Ecuador 2014 will be even more of a success than the excellent Tanzania trip.
