Year 7 Poetry Evening

Ladies and gentlemen,

You are cordially invited to our year 7 EFC poetry evening. It will be taking place on Monday, 7th March 2016. Letters were sent out last week via ParentMail. Refreshments will be provided. The evening begins at 5 and ends around 6PM. We kindly ask that students return to school in full school uniform for 4:30PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

Year 7 EFC Projects

World

In World EFC we are working on a project called 'How on Earth!' which focuses on examining natural disasters. We recently designed and built earthquake proof buildings from paper and sellotape - some were more successful than others in the 'earthquake simulation'!

Trade

Year 7 Trade EFC students are investigating issues surrounding trade. They are learning about Fair Trade and then organizing their very own Fair Trade bake sale. Date to be announced.

Performance

Calling all year 7 EFC Performance parents! As I’m sure you have heard by now, or will be notified shortly, we are putting on a fashion show at the end of this term. Date is to be announced! We are exploring the world of upcycled fashion and are examining the effects of recycling on the environment. We’re trying to help raise awareness about upcycling and its many benefits.

We would love to have as many of you as possible to help the students organise this fashion show; which we have left solely up to them! It is now in their very capable hands. From hair and makeup to styling, we kindly invite anyone who would like to help us out. A letter will be sent out shortly in order for you to let us know if you are able to help.

Furthermore, we are asking students to collect materials either unwanted objects, fabrics and/or items that they no longer use in the hopes of upcycling them into a new product. Should parents have more than a few items to spare, we would greatly appreciate any donations toward this project. Many thanks in advance!

Two students were asked what they thought about adopting a giant panda. This is what they had to say…

Joe Higgins: “The Global Canvas project inspired us to adopt an animal. We adopted a cute panda from the World Wildlife Foundation. WWF helps protect animals that are endangered.”

“In 7CT, we adopted a panda and we all really enjoyed picking it from the WWF website. Soon after we got a cuddly panda toy and a certificate thanking us for our adoption. We are holding a cake sale to raise funds which we are really excited for.” – Ben Mulvihill

7CT and the Giant Pandas of China

efc-blog-4

If you remember, back in November 7CT adopted a giant panda as a result of the Global Canvas project. The students were so inspired to help protect endangered animals that they decided to adopt a giant panda in order to support the great work of the World Wildlife Foundation. For just £3 a month, their contribution will help protect the giant pandas in China’s Qinling mountains.

What next?

7CT wants to raise funds for the World Wildlife Foundation in order to continue to raise awareness about the issues facing wildlife. 7CT will therefore be holding a cake sale in the atrium on Friday, 29th January at lunch time. All proceeds will go towards the World Wildlife Foundation.

EFC-Blog-Divider---Whats-new-2016

Friday, 15th January 2016

Hello again! We hope that you have had a relaxing holiday. We are welcoming 2016 with open arms and looking forward to some brand new projects.

Year 7

In year 7, our EFC student are taking on a project entitled “The People are Revolting”. Students will investigate the history of protest and revolution.

Students will initially be focusing on either the Peasants’ Revolt or the English Civil War acting as historians.

Students will then consider the role of poetry in protest.  They will write a ballad which is set in, or based around, real historical events and will be performing their ballads at a poetry evening (date to be confirmed).

Year 8

In year 8, our EFC students are venturing into the world of British politics. Students are going to learn about the structure of British Government, with a particular focus on how political parties are elected. They will work as ministers to research and design policies about the school, and write a party manifesto.

Each minister will prepare a three minute speech on their policies to persuade voters to elect them.

This speech will performed in mock election debates, where each minister will go head-to-head with their opponent, as well as respond to questions from the voters.

Congratulations to 7VH!

They managed to raise £370 for the World Wildlife Foundation! Their fun run and cake sales were a great success. Well done!
