Art and Design

Objectives:

Students will be introduced to a variety of new skills, techniques and processes. Students will begin to understand the formal elements and apply these to their own work and the work of others. Students will investigate and gain inspiration from a variety of sources, including traditional and contemporary artist and art practices. They will develop their analytical skills.

KS3 will use the assessment objectives from AQA GCSE to gain consistency within their learning. AO1, AO2, AO3 and AO4. This will enable students to develop their skills ready for year 9 and KS4.

AO1: Develop

Contextual research into animals in storytelling and mythical beasts.

Understanding the ways in which artists portray animals in stories and how mythical beasts are shown in art. Understanding the characteristics attributed to different creatures. Making links with other cultures.

AO2: Media

Understanding the Formal Elements and using them in a series of task which use a variety of Media, Techniques and Processes.

Media: Pencil, pastel, paint, printmaking, ink, etc.

Formal Elements: Line, tone, texture, colour.

Specialist Techniques and Processes:

Mono printing, paper cutting, aluminium can cutting and embossing.

AO3: Recording

Observation drawing, from primary and secondary sources.

Developing ideas.

Formal Elements. Composition.

AO4: Personal Response

Produce a personal ink drawing, mono printing, paper cut and aluminium can sculpting.

Sculpture to be weather vane for group work in grounds.

AO1: Develop

Contextual research into architectural styles and their inspiration.

Understanding what has inspired architects and how to use architecture as inspiration for artwork.

AO2: Media

Understanding the Formal Elements and using them in a series of task which use a variety of Media, Techniques and Processes.

Media: Pencil, pastel, paint, charcoal, etc.

Formal Elements: Line, tone, texture, colour.

Specialist Techniques and Processes:

Collage.

AO3: Recording

Observation drawing, from primary and secondary sources.

Developing ideas.

Formal Elements. Composition, Perspective, Scale.

AO4:

Produce a personal collage made from recycled and found materials. Each student to make a section of a large scale collage developed from a drawing of the school.
