EAL

The EAL department helps students for whom English is not their fist language. The EAL teacher, Ms Zerhauova, and Mrs Brough, the EAL support assistant, support students in their lessons and outside the lessons. Students can get additional help with their homework and other school work during the EAL homework lunch clubs, which operate three times a week.

The EAL department has organised and run two culture evenings – ‘A celebration of the languages and culture of our students for whom English is an additional language’. It is always a wonderful evening full of dance, music, singing and food from different cultures.

Every year the EAL department organises trips as a reward for excellent progress and effort throughout the year by EAL students at Stanley Park High. We have visited Central London and Greenwich, Sutton cinema, the London Eye, enjoyed an open-top bus tour of central London, a picnic lunch in St James’ Park, and a river cruise along the Thames. Students have had many opportunities to practise and develop their use of English throughout the day. We were very fortunate and were able to see the parade at Buckingham Palace of The Queen's State Opening of Parliament on Tuesday 25th May 2010. The students were able to see the Queen and Prince Philip in their crown carriage from a very close distance when they were returning from parliament.
