The U14 Girls football team make it Stanley Parks 3rd County Cup trophy this season!

The pressure was on for Stanley Parks year 8 and 9 girls as prior to their cup final on Tuesday 9th May, the U12 girls and the year 11 boys both won their Surrey County Cup finals!

The girls have had an outstanding season, reaching the semi- finals of the National Cup and winning the Sutton League they are on an incredible high and winning the County Cup would most definitely be the icing on the cake.

Stanley Park faced Bleinhem High school, a school that had evidently had a really good run in the cup with some very talented players amongst their team. Within the first 2 minutes, I could tell they were going to be a tough side to beat and one of our hardest teams yet! Both sides created chances testing both keepers either end of the field. Morgan and Poppy played one of the best games I’ve seen either of them play at centre back. They showed a great partnership between them and made it extremely difficult for Bleinhems strikers to get through them. First chances came from the hard working Halley and when she ploughed through Bleinhems defence to shoot just wide of the goal. Brooke and Lacey had a hard job against 3 of their centre midfields but were very solid and played some quality balls through for Halley and Tia to run onto who both worked tirelessly upfront. After 15 minutes, Stanley Park scored a well worked team goal starting from the back, played into Brooke who put a through ball through to Halley who showed nice composure to slot home for SPH. The game was extremely even leading up until half time.

Bleinhem came out strong in the second half and created more chances than the first half. Lydia, Morgan, Poppy and Evie did a fantastic job at standing players up and showing them wide denying any time or space they had on the ball. SPH’s keeper Charley communicated well to her team mates and was quick to come out and deny Blenheims strikers getting a goal. Unfortunately Millie Rowland was unable to play much to her devastation due to an ankle injury and was missed in the back line! Stanley Park found their second wind with `10 minutes to go when Tia Searle scored a much deserved goal to add to her impressive goal talley this season. Final score finished at 2-0 to Stanley Park!

Special mention to Bleinhem High school- a very good team with a lot of talented girls who will only get stronger next year. Well done to all the SPH girls for an outstanding season and making the school very proud of their amazing success this year.
