Stanley Park boys bring back a handful of medals from borough sport.

The Stanley Park boy’s athletic team were in action last week, competing in the annual borough sport events. With sun cream applied and plenty of fluid on board (courtesy of Mr.Stapleton) the Year 7-11 athletics team were ready.

It wasn’t long before Stanley Park won their first medal of the day. L.Wills ran a great race in the 800m finishing third recording a time of 2.17. We were soon to have another medal in the 800m with J.Simpson. A previous borough winner J.Simpson wanted to achieve the same as he did last year and it was looking likely that he could achieve this. However in the last 100m of the race he couldn’t hold on to the lead and was just beaten. With a time of 2.17 he secured a silver medal.

Stanley Park boys were very successful in the High Jump competition. D.Frawley (Year 8) won a bronze with a jump of 1.40 metres, Ryan Jackson (Year 9) also won a bronze with a jump of 1.40 metres and finally F.Langridge replicated last year’s performance winning another gold with a jump of 1.70.

More medals were to be won in the field events when E.Okakpu won a silver medal in the Javelin with a throw of 32.58 metres. L.Gibbons also won a silver medal in the Discus with a throw of 27.34 metres.

Our final medal of the day came in the 300 metres when N.Ssenfuka ran a season best of 39.36 to win a silver medal.

Overall it was an excellent performance from all students involved in borough sports.
