Stanley Park show superb sprinting speed at Sutton Grammar Sports Hall Athletics

The Year 7 and 8 Boys took part in their first indoor athletics event at Sutton Grammar on Monday.  A strong squad of Year 7s, made up of Murray Samuel, Oscar Lutz, Ezra Oloyede, Leo Celis, Louis Elsom, James Morrin, Reuben Underwood and Max Halsey ran, jumped and threw their way to a fantastic fourth place finish, beating local rivals Carshalton Boys and finishing narrowly behind John Fisher, Wallington Boys and Sutton Grammar School.  A couple of highlights were Ezra’s win in the two-lap race, showing excellent speed to win by several metres.  Murray Samuel won his six-lap contest, an fantastic feat of endurance.  Finally, the 4x2 lap relay team of Murray, Oscar, Ezra and Leo proved too much for their opposition, with some silky smooth baton changeovers and agile turns on the boards.  A mixture of field events (Shot, Speed Bounce, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump and Vertical Jump) provided the boys with some experience that will stand them in good stead for the summer.

The Year 8s battled bravely, despite a somewhat depleted team due to injury and illness. Kane Harrold, Max Tawdrous, Arsene Vancevich and Eny Babjibe gave it their all and their effort was admirable.  They too have gained valuable experience for the summer season and were a credit to the school. Well done to all pupils who took part and keep working hard on fitness over the Christmas break.  It will definitely pay-off in the summer competitions.
