Year 7 finish on a fantastic win!

On Wednesday the Year 7 netballers had their last game in the league against Cheam. The girls were aware that they are one of the hardest teams in the league, so knew it was going to a tough game but they wanted to finish on a high.

The girls started off really well, winning the centre pass and with some excellent passing and communication from the centre court players in the first few minutes of the game allowed Erin and Amber to be able to have chances to shoot, making it 2-0 in the first third. Cheam tried to take advantage when they were on the attack but SPHS defence from Eiriene and Maria was just too strong.

In the second third SPHS looked confident and were working well as a team. A few silly looping balls allowed Cheam to intercept the ball and get back on the attack, scoring 2 goals in only a few minutes. At the end of the second third it was 2-2 so all to play for.

After a team talk before the last third the SPHS girls knew they needed to keep calm and take their time, as they deserved to win this game, having played the best netball so far this season. The kept possession on their centre pass and, ensured they moved into space and in front of their defender before asking for the ball, which allowed Erin to score again, making it 3-2. Cheam reacted well and brought it straight back to 3-3. In the last few minutes both teams played really good netball, but SPHS took advantage when they had the opportunities to and kept their passes strong and short and the game finished 5-4 to SPHS. A well deserved win for the girls.

Well done girls, not just for the final netball tournament on Monday!
