Great performance by the Girl’s Borough Sports team!

On Wednesday 20th June the girls met at The David Weir Centre for the annual Borough Sports Competition. Again it was another warm day like last year, but the girls were all very excited to be representing Stanley Park.

The morning started off well for the girls with all year groups qualifying for the 100m final. In the final Chloe Delvaille for Year 7,  Ilana Harris- Walters for Year 8 and Lydia Soltana for Year 9 finished in the top 5 Tia Searle for Year 10 had an amazing run to finish 2nd.

Whilst this was happening on the other side of the track the hurdles races were being done. Both Kaitlin Ellis and Evelyn Stephenson-Oliver ran a good race to qualify for the finals.  In the finals Kaitlin hit the first hurdle which affected her stride pattern, however she still brought it back to finish 5th. Evelyn Stephenson-Oliver has been training hard leading up to Borough for this event and was looking to bring the gold back like she did last year. As soon as the race started there was no doubt that Evelyn was straight into her race and finished clear of all the other competitors to retain her Borough Champion title.

On to the field events, with the Year 10 girls Long Jump competition, where Morgan Searle was looking good for Stanley Park, perfect on the board with some good distances being jumped. At the end of the competition, Morgan was given the silver medal, giving her another Borough Sports medal to add to the collection from the last 4 years. Poppy Bowyer-Mitchell also collected a bronze medal for the Year 9 Long Jump, matching last years success.

In the Javelin competitions, Sophie Mclaren retained her Year 8 title for another year throwing a fantastic distance of 21.75m and Daisy White collected bronze in the Year 9 Javelin competition.

Ella Goulding was representing Stanley Park in the Year 9 High Jump, an event that she had also been working hard at improving this year. Clearly all the training paid off as she finished 3rd, collecting the bronze medal.

The last track event of the morning was the 800m, by which time the sun was starting to shine and it was starting to become a little warmer. Brooke Fido was running for the Year 8 team, the same as last year. She came up with some good tactics for the race which she kept to throughout the first lap, making sure she was not too far away from the leader, she gradually moved closer as she came round to the last 150m of the race, with a great sprint finish to finish 3rd.

Well done to all the girls that represented Stanley Park in this event, you all did amazing and should continue to work hard on their events for next year, ensuring they come to Athletics club and improving on their techniques in lessons.
