Post 16

Are we the place for you?

We are a very successful mixed community for students for all abilities, housed in a ‘state of the art’ building with facilities and equipment that fully meet the demands of learning in the 21st Century.

We hold Combined Specialist Status in Applied Learning and Mathematics & Computing and are only one of four Lead Schools for Human Scale Education in the country. These accreditations clearly demonstrate our commitment to the happiness, wellbeing, whole development and achievements of each and every student.

We believe that a gulf has opened up between what schools provide and what young people need. We will ensure that our students are literate, numerate and gain academic qualifications. However our emphasis is not solely on testing and passing exams at the expense of other skills and qualities that we believe are just as vital in today’s and tomorrow’s world.

We believe that the formation of excellent relationships is an essential prerequisite of effective learning and, as a result, all of our practice is designed to ensure this happens.

We offer engaging, collaborative and interactive learning processes that provide an ideal mix of theoretical and practical learning.

We offer learning in various settings, not just in the classroom, and fully engage the wider community in learning.

We believe we have a unique offer. Our Prospectus describes Post 16 education at Stanley Park High.

A Post 16 Student’s Learning Journey

Where and what to study post-16 is a really important decision and is one that you will be considering very carefully. Our mission statement clearly identifies the qualities, skills and attributes that we believe are required whether your ambitions involve going to university, obtaining a place on a professional training course or full-time employment.

We offer a wide range of courses that reflect your interests and are designed to meet the rigorous demands of higher education and the workplace. These include a wide range of courses at all levels: from AS and A2 courses to Vocational BTEC and GCSE retakes in English and Mathematics. Some of these courses are linked with our Sporting Academies. Our teachers and support staff will provide the subject expertise and individual attention needed to achieve your full potential by challenging your thinking, encouraging your creativity and developing your skills as independent learners.

Our students receive excellent pastoral care and support. On entry you will be placed into one of our ‘Small-Schools’ – Performance, Trade or World and it will be very much regarded as your home base. You will then be carefully placed into very small Vertical Tutor Groups with students from other year groups. From the beginning your Tutor will monitor your progress and provide you with lots of support and guidance, particularly throughout the UCAS application process.

In an increasingly competitive market for university places and employment it is important that you stand out from the crowd.  You could add the Extended Project Qualification to your programme, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or a whole host of other activities from running the Radio or TV Station, to performing in the school play or participating in a wide range of sports.

Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Post-16 administration team if you require further information.
