Welcome

“We are a very successful mixed community for students of all abilities, housed in a ‘state of the art’ building with facilities and equipment that fully meet the demands of learning in the 21st Century”

Introduction to Post-16

We are about to enter our new school. It will be the most striking school building that you will have seen. Our new school will be gleaming, spacious, full of light, with learning environments that are flexible and designed to resemble the workplace. Crucially they will ‘Ignite a Passion for Learning’ in all. However, we are fully aware that buildings do not transform education on their own. A holistic, yet rigorous, approach to learning, underpinned by positive relationships, does just this.

At Stanley Park High we fully appreciate that when students are making choices at 16, it is a pivotal and exciting point in their education. At Stanley Park High we can offer a curriculum and pastoral support programme that is unique in the local area. It will be conducted within a vibrant and supportive environment. It is one that fully prepares students for the challenges ahead.

We are the only school with a combined Specialism in Applied Learning and Computing and this ensures that we are fully committed to offering engaging, collaborative and interactive learning processes that provide an ideal mix of theoretical and practical learning. Post 16 students can choose from a wide portfolio of courses designed to meet the rigorous demands of higher education and the workplace. These include a wide range of courses at all levels: from A2 and AS courses to Vocational BTEC and GCSE retakes in English and Maths.

At Stanley Park all our students receive excellent pastoral care and support. Students are able to meet with their form tutor every day and are the first source of care and advice. Students meet with both subject and pastoral teaching staff to receive guidance on choosing appropriate courses both prior to enrolment to Post-16 and after AS results for the transition to A2 study. This high level of advice and support continues throughout the UCAS application process.

On entry to Post-16 a student will be placed into one of our ‘Small-Schools’ – Performance, Trade and World and it will be very much regarded as their home base. Post-16 students are then carefully placed into very small Vertical Tutor Groups with students from the younger year groups and they remain in these groups for the remainder of their time at Stanley Park. Here they will be expected to contribute fully to the life of the school, which may include mentoring of younger students in their Vertical Tutor Groups.

“The harmonious and cohesive ethos of the school greatly enhances students’ own attitude to learning”.
