A warm welcome from the trustees.
The national agenda hasn’t changed, and is unlikely to anytime soon. Despite the jury being out on the benefits of academisation, schools are still being ‘encouraged’ to transfer to academy status and become part of Multi-Academy Trusts (MAT). Such trusts are often modelled on a top-down pyramid, led centrally by a CEO in a ‘lead’ school, with a potential loss of autonomy for the other schools in the Trust. We share these concerns and, in all honesty, we would have liked to have remained part of our local authority. Unfortunately, mass academisation meant that its support could not go beyond the statutory and we were forced to seek it by other means.
We are not actively seeking schools to join our MAT; however, we are seeking like-minded schools to collaborate and share with, as well as learn from. We fully appreciate that, in most cases, this can be done without the need for a formal arrangement, but through informal links that provide the mutual benefits from support.
